After years of failure, the Detroit Lions are finally a team with a bright future, thanks to head coach Dan Campbell’s ability to get this struggling NFL organization back on track and ready to compete for the foreseeable future.

The Lions are coming off probably the franchise’s best year ever, with Detroit exceeding expectations and reaching the NFC Championship Game.

Even though Jared Goff and company were ultimately defeated by the San Francisco 49ers, the Lions have a lot of potential to be a force to be reckoned with for many years to come if the team can maintain the roster intact while adding some key pieces to the championship puzzle.

Unfortunately, veteran safety Tracy Walker does not appear to be part of the team’s long-term plans, as the Lions released him on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Jeremey Fowler.

Walker, 29, has one sack, two passes defensed, a forced fumble, and 42 solo tackles in 17 regular-season games.

Walker spent six seasons with the Lions and will now seek a new position in the NFL.

As for Detroit, Campbell and his team will most certainly be busy throughout the NFL offseason, attempting to enhance the roster in the hopes of reaching the Super Bowl next season and remaining competitive for many years to come.

The Lions’ first objective this offseason will most likely be to improve their defense.
