Hideki Matsuyama won the Genesis Invitational with a remarkable comeback from six strokes adrift, earning a $4 million reward. The win was the Japanese golfer’s first PGA Tour victory since January 2022.

Despite the hoopla surrounding Matsuyama’s amazing victory, it is important mentioning the huge sums made by all contestants throughout the event. Will Zalatoris and Luke List followed Matsuyama’s purse, rounding up the group of players who had won more than one million. They tied for second place in the Genesis Invitational with a score of -14.

Tiger Woods made his first PGA Tour appearance since April, but was unable to collect any money after withdrawing due to illness. Despite a one-over 72 in the first round on Thursday, Woods made five birdies, six bogeys, and shanked once, an unusual occurrence.

The golf legend ascribed the mishit to a back spasm. During the second round, he started with a birdie, but his playing companion Gary Woodland subsequently admitted that Woods appeared off his game. There were reports of repeated restroom stops, and by the seventh hole, Woods was forced to quit, with Tour rules official Pete Dachisen transporting him back to the clubhouse.

Jordan Spieth, another well-known golfer, was disqualified from the competition after signing an erroneous scorecard. During the second round, he incorrectly signed his scorecard as a par on the par-3 fourth hole.

He bogeyed when his tee shot missed the green, followed by a missed 5-foot putt that saved par by only a few inches. Despite the bogey being immediately marked on the leaderboard, Spieth’s improper signing of the scorecard upon turning it in after his round resulted in his automatic disqualification from the event. He would then accept full responsibility for his error on social media.

Both Spieth and Woods did not make it to the weekend and thus did not earn a dime, as did all of the other players who missed the cut despite being in the top half of the field at the halfway point. Here’s how much each golfer earned after the 2024 Genesis Invitational.
