The Detroit Lions appear to have struck gold when they selected Jahmyr Gibbs in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Gibbs eclipsed 1,000 scrimmage yards in his debut NFL season, demonstrating an abundance of agility and athletic talent. The Lions are looking forward to seeing what a more mature version of the talented running back can do in his second season. “‘Jah’ (Gibbs) is a special dude,” Lions fullback Jason Cabinda said to the Detroit Free Press. “I mean, with his acceleration, speed, and vision, he is capable of doing a lot. He can do anything. And the way ‘D-Mo’ (David Montgomery) runs the rock, I mean his attitude, does not scream Detroit? That’s how I feel when I see D-Mo run the rock, so they are two dynamic players that can really damage you. And when you bring me back in and we have the power run game and are able to do different things, it can be very dynamic.” Cabinda himself is in an intriguing situation. He missed the majority of the season with a knee injury and was waived after being recalled from injured reserve. He eventually returned to the practice squad and served as an upgrade throughout the playoffs, but his contract expired earlier this summer. He has stated that he hopes to return in 2024, but is now concentrating on healing his injury in order to return healthy. “I think right now, I’m just focusing on my body, doing what I can to get my body right, where I want it to be,” she stated. “I’m giving myself the best chance to start preparing again, so we’ll see. Take a few weeks to breathe, kick this knee up, let it heal a little, maybe go on a trip, and then see how I feel.
