Aston Villa have been linked with a deal for Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries, which demonstrates how far they’ve come in recent years.

Aston Villa have been linked with a transfer for Aston Villa right-back Denzel Dumfries, and journalist Dean Jones told GIVEMESPORT that it demonstrates how far the Midlands club has gone in recent years.

Villa are soaring high in the Premier League and vying for a spot in European competitions under Unai Emery’s leadership. Only a few years back, the Villans were trying to stay in the division under Steven Gerrard, but Emery has turned them into a formidable force in England. The Midlands club easily won their Europa Conference League group and is in contention to qualify for the Champions League this season.

Villa are now shopping in a different market than they were before Emery arrived, thanks to their extraordinary upward trajectory. Dumfries is the latest player to be linked with a move to the club, and it reflects how far they’ve come recently.

Aston Villa makes contact regarding Dumfries transfer.
According to rumors in Italy, Villa has spoken with representatives of Inter Milan right-back Dumfries about a prospective transfer. Emery is already planning for next season and obviously sees Dumfries as a player who can help his club enter the next season. It is understood that the Italian club may seek a sum of over £44 million to allow the Dutch international to leave.

Matty Cash is Emery’s most natural right-back option in his squad, while Ezri Konsa has also been used in a defensive role. With the Spanish manager rotating the two players at points this season, it’s possible that he’s not completely sold on either option, which explains the links to bringing Dumfries to Villa Park.

Dumfries has primarily played wing-back for Inter this season. Villa typically play without wing-backs, but when Cash is deployed on the right side of defence, he is frequently tasked with moving forward and becoming an attacking option. Dumfries is expected to be out of contract next year, so Inter will have to make a choice over the summer. If they are unable to persuade him to sign a new contract, they may be obliged to cash in once the transfer window opens.
