Alabama outearns, outspends Auburn in 2023 fiscal year

In terms of money, there wasn’t much of a difference between the two colleges. Alabama’s overall revenue came to $199.9 million, but the school pointed out the amount did not include $14.3 million in gifts from FY 2023 that were received but not expensed when responding to AL.com’s request for the revenues and expenses report.

Auburn’s revenue was $195.3 million. The Tigers have a $3.3 million surplus in their athletic department.

Without accounting for uncounted contributions, the Crimson Tide ended the fiscal year in the red. UA showed a $12.1 million loss in FY 2023 spending $212 million.

Just in football, Alabama brought in $129.3 million, while the Tigers reported $126.7 million. The Tide spent $83.3 million on the state’s most popular sport, making for a $46 million surplus, with Auburn coming in at $71.1 million in football expenses and a $55 million surplus.
Despite earning less money, The Tigers outspent the Tide in men’s basketball. Auburn reported spending $4.2 million and earning $19.2 million from the sport, while Alabama reported spending $2.8 million and earning $20.6 million.
In the majority of the fiscal year’s spending categories, Alabama outperformed Auburn. The Tigers spent $32.9 million and $32.5 million, respectively, on support personnel and coaches, while the Tide spent $37.3 million and $38.5 million, respectively, on those items.
When it came to recruiting expenditures, the Tide barely beat the Tigers. Alabama spent $2.9 million on foot and $4 million across the department.
Severance was one area where Auburn spent a lot more money. The Tigers, who fired two football coaches, recorded $19.9 million in severance costs, of which $18.6 million came from football alone. Alabama, on the other hand, paid $998,286 department-wide.
Alabama reported $41.9 million in total revenue from ticket sales, which was more than any other state. $32.4 million was received by Auburn.
Additionally, the Crimson Tide earned $55.6 million in media rights revenue as opposed to the Tigers’ $48 million. Alabama won $2 million for winning the Sugar Bowl, whereas Auburn received no football bowl money for the calendar year.
In the same vein, Alabama contributed $3.7 million more to bowl fees than any other team. In the last season under head coach Bryan Harsin, the Tigers did not make a bowl game and made no expenditures.
