In the competition to recruit Werder Bremen goalkeeper Michael Zetterer before the summer transfer market opens, Fulham is currently up against Roma.

The Italian website calciomercao.it reported that Roma is hoping to recruit Werder stopper Michael Zetterer this summer.

Zetterer and Alex Meret, the goalkeeper for Napoli, are being considered by Roma as potential replacements for Rui Patricio.

According to the source, Fulham enters the picture as Roma faces serious competition for Zetterer.

Zetterer is reportedly wanted by Fulham, Rennes, and Galatasaray, with a reported price tag of just €6 million (£5 million).

Marek Rodak, a Slovakian goalkeeper, is still at Fulham, although the team already has two German goalkeepers in Bernd Leno and Steven Benda.

Zetterer would undoubtedly compete with Leno if he were to leave, but it’s uncertain if he would accept a backup role at Werder instead of first choice.

Michael Zetterer, the Fulham target, who is he?

Zetterer was raised at the local club SpVgg Unterhaching and is a native of Munich.

Before joining Werder at the age of 19, Zetterer earned 30 appearances for the first team after breaking into the starting lineup.

The 6′ 2″ goalie began his career with the Werder reserve squad before being loaned to PEC Zwolle and Austria Klegenfurt.

Zetterer has definitely stepped up this season after making a few appearances for the Werder first squad in Germany’s second division during the 2021–22 campaign.

Ole Werner, the manager, has commended the 28-year-old for his technique with the ball at his feet and stated that he has replaced Jiri Pavlenka as Werder’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Following Silas’s snub, Fulham is eyeing the Bundesliga once again.

The hope is that Fulham’s attempt to get Zetterer will be more successful than their attempt to sign Silas Katompa Mvumpa, another star player in the Bundesliga.

On transfer deadline day, Fulham attempted to sign Stuttgart’s star player Silas, but the Bundesliga team rejected a loan-to-buy agreement.

Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany reports that Fulham is still interested in Silas this summer and has set a €20 million (£17 million) asking price for him.

Since Fulham was unable to sign Silas before the January deadline, they may now want to sign Zetterer and perhaps even both players.

Though the Werder stopper is a name to keep an eye on in the upcoming months, we still believe that Silas is a more likely signing than Zetterer at this time.
