Brad Marchand recorded two assists in his 1,000th career NHL game, both for Boston. Charlie McAvoy and James van Riemsdyk scored for the reigning Presidents Trophy winners, who still have the best record in the Eastern Conference after losing three of their previous four.

Linus Ullmark stopped 23 shots for Boston, although it appeared that he deflected Point’s attempt into the net.

Oilers 8 Red Wings 4

Edmonton, Alberta (AP) – Connor McDavid recorded a career-high six assists to lead Edmonton to its eighth consecutive home win.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins led the Oilers with two goals, while Leon Draisaitl, Cody Ceci, Evan Bouchard, Dylan Holloway, Zach Hyman, and Evander Kane each added one. Edmonton is one victory away from tying their franchise record of nine home wins, which they achieved twice – in 2017 and 2022.

Alex DeBrincat, Joe Veleno, Patrick Kane, and David Perron scored for the Red Wings, who have lost two of their last three games.

Canucks 4, Blackhawks 2.

CHICAGO (AP)— Conor Garland scored twice, Dakota Joshua had one goal and two assists, and NHL-leading Vancouver defeated a weakened Chicago.

Nils Hoglander scored for the third game in a row, helping the Canucks move to 36-12-6 and 78 points. Vancouver hasn’t led the league this late in a season since 2012, when it won its second straight Presidents’ Trophy.

Vancouver outshot the league’s worst Chicago 38-23, with the Blackhawks losing for the seventh time in a row. Tyler Johnson and rookie defenseman Kevin Korchinski scored for Chicago.

Thatcher Demko of Vancouver recorded 21 saves. Chicago’s Petr Mrazek stopped 34 shots.

Avalanche 6 Capitals 3

Washington (AP) — Artturi Lehkonen had two goals and two helpers, and his line led the way as Colorado broke a four-game losing streak by defeating Washington.

Ross Colton scored on a 2-on-1 rush in the first period after Miles Wood’s feed, and he assisted on Lehkonen’s first goal in the second. Lehkonen scored his power play goal with a no-look, through-the-legs pass to Mikko Rantanen, and he added an empty netter in the final minute.

Wood scored another empty-net goal with 32.8 seconds remaining. Devon Toews, a defenceman, also scored for Colorado. Alexandar Georgiev made 24 saves to tie Thatcher Demko of Vancouver for the league lead in victories this season (28).

Alex Ovechkin stretched his goal-scoring streak to six with 11 minutes remaining in the third period. Connor McMichael and Beck Malenstyn both scored, while Charlie Lindgren made 31 stops for the Capitals, who have lost seven of their last eight.

STARS 4 HURRICANS 2

DALLAS (AP)— Jason Robertson scored the game-winning goal early in the third period, and Dallas beat Carolina.

Roope Hintz and Mason Marchment also scored for the Stars, who have a 6-1-0 record in their previous seven games. Matt Duchene scored an empty-net goal and provided an assist.

Jake Oettinger, a first-year All-Star, made 32 saves for his sixth consecutive victory.

Jordan Staal had a goal and an assist for the Hurricanes, who saw their five-game road winning streak halted. Jesper Fast also scored, and Pyotr Kochetkov saved 19 shots.

With 1:32 remaining, the Hurricanes appeared to close the gap to 4-3 on a 6-on-5 goal after a scrum in the crease, but Dallas won a goalkeeper interference challenge.

Maple Leafs 4 Blues 1

TORONTO(AP) – Bobby McMann scored the first hat trick of his NHL career as Toronto defeated St. Louis.

William Nylander scored the other goal for Toronto. Ilya Samsonov recorded 14 saves.

Shortly before the opening faceoff, the NHL’s department of player safety announced that Leafs defenceman Morgan Rielly would be punished for five games for a recent cross-check to Ottawa’s Ridly Greig.

Alexey Toropchenko scored for St. Louis, which is 7-1-0 in its previous eight games. Jordan Binnington stopped 28 shots in loss.

SABRES 7, KINGS 0.

Buffalo, New York (AP) Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 33 shots for his fourth career shutout, while Jordan Greenway scored twice and assisted to lead Buffalo to a thrashing against Los Angeles.

Rasmus Dahlin, JJ Peterka, and Alex Tuch each got a goal and an assist to help the Sabres end a three-game home losing streak in which they combined to score three goals. Kyle Okposo and Zach Benson also scored in an outing as the slow-starting Sabres turned the script, scoring the first goal in eight games and leading after 20 minutes for the first time in 11.

The Kings were flat and sloppy for most of the game, providing little help for goaltender David Rittich, who made 12 stops in two periods. He was replaced by Cam Talbot, who let up two goals on seven shots.

Devils: 4; Predators: 2.

Nashville, Tennessee (AP) – Nico Hischier scored twice to lead New Jersey to a win over Nashville.

Timo Meier and Jack Hughes also scored, while Nico Daws made 30 stops as the Devils won back-to-back games on successive nights.

Ryan O’Reilly and Tommy Novak scored, and Juuse Saros made 42 saves for Nashville, which has lost four of five games. Roman Josi and Cody Glass both contributed two assists.

KRAKEN 2, ISLANDERS 1 (SO)

NEW YORK (AP)— Tomas Tatar scored the only goal in a shootout to help Seattle stop a three-game losing streak.

Matty Beniers scored in regulation, and Philipp Grubauer recorded 26 saves for the Kraken.

Kyle Palmieri scored, and Ilya Sorokin made 29 saves in New York’s second straight loss.

Tatar defeated Sorokin with several dekes and a forehand stroke. The Islanders’ Oliver Wahlstrom, Bo Horvat, and Mathew Barzal were all denied in the shootout.

Canadiens 5 Ducks 0

MONTREAL (AP) — Montreal easily defeated Anaheim, with Nick Suzuki scoring two goals and adding an assist.

The red hot Suzuki extended his point run to a career-high eight games, scoring 13 points during that time, and now has 51 points in 53 games this season.

Cayden Primeau saw little action, making 13 stops in his first start since January 20 as Montreal recorded its first shutout of the season.

Juraj Slafkovsky, who linked with Suzuki throughout the game, had a goal and two assists for his first three-point game. The Canadiens also got goals from Jake Evans and Brandon Gignac, who scored for the first time in NHL.

Lukas Dostal made 33 saves for Anaheim, which was shut out for the sixth time this season.

Senators 6 Blue Jackets 3

OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) Brady Tkachuk scored his second career hat trick to help Ottawa win its fourth consecutive game.

Tkachuk scored twice on the power play, while Claude Giroux contributed a short-handed goal and two assists. Ridly Greig and Erik Brannstrom each scored. Anton Forsberg had 37 saves.

Dmitri Voronkov, Boone Jenner, and Jack Roslovic scored for the Blue Jackets. Daniil Tarasov stopped 24 of the 29 shots.
