Seeing quarterback Hendon Hooker of the Detroit Lions in person will be one of the more thrilling aspects of the offseason. Knowing that Hooker would be redshirted for the majority of his rookie season while recovering from an ACL tear, the Lions selected him in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Although Hooker was eventually added to the 53-man roster, the public has not even witnessed him participate in a full practice; instead, he was limited to serving as the team’s gameday backup quarterback.

To be clear, Hooker is not anticipated to make a run at the lead role. Without a doubt, Jared Goff is the starting quarterback, and an extension is most likely in the works for him. Nevertheless, it’s obvious that the Lions respect Hooker enough to use a Day 2 selection pick on him.

Jalin Hyatt, a receiver for the New York Giants, talked about Hooker’s potential in the NFL this week at the Super Bowl. Hyatt, a sports star from San Antonio who was formerly roommates with Hooker at Tennessee, joined R.J. Ochoa and Rob Thompson on 94.1 to discuss why he believes the Lions quarterback is exactly where he should be.

“I adore him,” Hyatt declared. He was, of course, my college quarterback, and our friendship is fantastic. I believed that the Lions were the ideal team for him when he was picked. The ideal location, given that he is now recovering healthily. That seems like the ideal place for him. He is surrounded by receivers, has two running backs, a strong offensive line, and excellent coaching staff. It’s a perfect location for him.

When the Lions start their offseason program in April, we’ll be able to witness Hooker’s promise up close.

The full Hyatt interview is available to watch here.
