We’ve reached the most important stretch of the 2023-24 NHL season, and the Toronto Maple Leafs are still fighting for a top-three berth in the Atlantic.

With the All-Star break gone and the trade deadline nearing, the race for the NHL Playoffs has begun. While we’re still in the early rounds, teams like the Maple Leafs have a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and would like to keep it that way.

They have 34 games left to hold off certain advancing clubs in the Atlantic Division and East. If they can stay consistent and avoid injuries, Toronto should be able to return to the playoffs.

When will the 2024 NHL Playoffs start?
In 2024, the playoffs will begin on Monday, April 22nd, and end on Monday, June 24th, if required. The Maple Leafs will aim to proceed further than they did last season, although to their credit, they broke a two-decade drought of not winning a playoff series by defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning four games to two.

To advance to the 2024 NHL Playoffs, the Maple Leafs must…
The Maple Leafs value consistency, as evidenced by their performance for the majority of the season. Sure, they had a rough patch in December, but aside than that, they’ve been one of the NHL’s most consistent teams, which is all they need to secure a wild card spot.

The Maple Leafs’ recent NHL Playoff history
After missing the playoffs for seven seasons in a row due to the 2004-05 NHL lockout, the Maple Leafs returned in the abbreviated 2012-13 season, losing in seven games to the Boston Bruins in the Conference Semifinals. They did not make another appearance until the 2016-17 season, after which they have made annual trips.

Unfortunately, the Maple Leafs failed to get past the first round until last year, when they defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games. In 2023-24, they hope to build on their success in previous year’s postseason run to the Eastern Conference Finals and serious competition for the Stanley Cup.
