Game notes
The Boston Bruins continue their homestand this afternoon, taking on the Washington Capitals for the first time this season! It’s one of those unusual 3:30 p.m. games on national television that might begin on time or be delayed by the prior game on ABC.
The Bruins will have a little extra spring in their step as they enter the game following a tremendous comeback victory on Thursday after starting the second half of the season on the wrong skate. The Bruins blanked the Canucks 4-0, including two shorthanded goals. They’ll aim to build on all of their excellent habits from the game and generate more quick period starts, which are currently hurting Washington.
Charlie Coyle also enters the game on a 10-game point run, with four goals and eleven assists.
The Capitals, on the other hand, have dropped six consecutive games, the most recent coming on Thursday against the Florida Panthers. In recent games, they have struggled in the first period, losing by a large margin.
This will also be their first weekend back-to-back. For the Capitals, Ovechkin has five points in the last five games, while Anthony Mantha has four.
The Bruins’ greatest visible advantage over the Capitals is their power play. This season, the Bruins are at 25.5%, while the Capitals are only at 14.6%. It will be the Bruins’ second game in three against a team with one of the league’s lowest percentages, but we all know how Tuesday went, so…
Anthony Richard had shifts on the fourth line at practice on Friday. Richard was summoned from Providence this week following the announcement that Matt Poitras would be out for five months. Richard has 19 goals and 19 helpers in 41 games with the Providence Bruins.
After yesterday’s practice, Jim Montgomery told the media that Anthony Richard could be in the lineup today. He stated that they enjoy his quickness, which may cause nervousness in rival teams, causing them to “create plays quicker than they want to.” Monty also mentioned his determination, forechecking, and ability to score shorthanded goals as things they loved about his game in Providence.
With the goaltender rotation, we should see Jeremy Swayman in the net. Kuemper and Lindgren have also spent about equal time in net. Kuemper started the last game before taking over for Lindgren in the previous one.
See you tonight!
