Mike McCarthy would have been fired by an enraged Emmitt Smith following the Cowboys’ embarrassing postseason loss.
A legendary Cowboys player would have switched coaches.
Although the Cowboys were defeated 48–32 at home by the Packers in the wild-card round of the playoffs this season, their owner, Jerry Jones, made the decision to challenge the Packers again with Mike McCarthy.
During his Thursday appearance on CBS Sports Radio’s “Maggie and Perloff,” renowned NFL running back Emmitt Smith, 54, expressed his disappointment over the defeat to Green Bay.
Smith remarked, “Our team just seems to be lost.”
“I mean, I really don’t know why it looks like this.”
Smith was questioned about why McCarthy, 60, will rejoin the Cowboys as head coach for the upcoming campaign.I’m not the general manager, Smith answered.
And to tell the truth, I assumed that action would have been taken due to the way it appeared. I believe that as of right now, our team and organization appear to be excellent teams and organizations.
Every year, they sell it to everyone, and it’s crucial to sell people on it and raise the ratings surrounding it. However, I believe that some things are far more significant than the buzz. The Cowboys organization has never struck me as being hype-worthy.
Since Smith’s Cowboys squad won the 1995–96 Super Bowl—their third title in four years—the Cowboys have only won four postseason games since the year 2000 and have not advanced to the conference championship game.
But generally speaking… We appear capable of winning it all and we even make it to the playoffs, but for some strange reason, we don’t,” Smith remarked.
That seems like a mental obstacle to me. It’s part of the training for players, in my opinion, to not rise to the occasion and to the expectations of greatness and dominance, whether as a group or as an individual player. Our team and organization don’t consistently exhibit that, in my opinion.
Despite winning 12 games in three consecutive seasons, the Cowboys have only one postseason victory and have never advanced past the divisional round.
