Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Darwin Nunez is a huge doubt for Liverpool’s Premier League game against Arsenal on Sunday.
Nunez set a new Premier League record when he struck the woodwork four times in the 4-1 win against Chelsea on Tuesday but did manage an assist to enable his side ease to victory.
The victory extended Liverpool’s lead over Arsenal and Manchester City to five points, with Jurgen Klopp’s side visiting the Emirates on Sunday.
Nunez, on the other hand, is suffering from a foot injury and left Anfield on Tuesday night wearing a protective boot.
While X-rays reveal that nothing has been broken, it is unclear whether he will travel south.
In his pre-match press conference on Friday, Klopp said: ‘You probably didn’t know, and I’m not sure if Darwin will be available.
‘After 20 minutes, Darwin’s foot was trodden on, which was quite painful. He removed the boot 20 minutes after the game because he didn’t want to see it before he understood what it was.
So he left the stadium wearing a boot that was not a football boot. So nothing was fractured, and the X-ray was clear, but we’ll see whether he can get his foot back into his boot, which we all know takes time.
‘I did not see him this morning. So we have to wait a little while.
Liverpool are also expected to be without Mohamed Salah.
The attacker suffered a hamstring injury in Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations group round match against Ghana on March 18 and returned to Merseyside for treatment.
Egypt has subsequently dropped out of the competition, with Salah posting a photo of himself back on the training pitch on Wednesday.
Salah’s agent expected that the Liverpool star would be out for three weeks when he provided an update on the attacker at the beginning of last week.
