Ryan Grubb, the new Alabama offensive coordinator, could be returning to Washington just weeks after joining the Crimson Tide program to work with Kalen DeBoer, the Huskies’ former coach. Grubb’s name has emerged as one of the top candidates for the Seattle Seahawks’ open offensive coordinator post, according to Pro Football Talk. On Wednesday, the NFL team named Mike MacDonald as its new head coach. If Grubb is chosen for the position in Seattle, he will leave Alabama before playing a single game or even a month.

Grubb and DeBoer have worked together since 2007, when DeBoer was the head coach at Sioux Falls. From there, Grubb followed DeBoer to Eastern Michigan, Fresno State, and Washington. The two helped Washington win the national championship game over Michigan earlier this month. The 47-year-old has no prior experience coaching in the NFL. If chosen for the Seahawks job, he would succeed Shane Waldron, who has held it for the previous three seasons. ABG-SI LLC holds the registered trademark SPORTS ILLUSTRATED. All rights are reserved.
