Wataru Endo has acknowledged he was’surprised’ to learn that Jurgen Klopp will leave his position as Liverpool manager at the end of this season.

The Japan international, who is currently representing his country at the Asian Cup in Qatar, joined the Reds from Stuttgart this summer.

The 30-year-old had hoped to work under Klopp in the coming years, but this will be his final season with the former Borussia Dortmund manager.

“Of course, I was astonished, but I have been a Liverpool fan for a long time. “He’s a human being, so I have no choice but to respect his decision, and other players who have been with me for a long time may be more surprised than me,” Endo told GOAL Japan (via Rousing The Kop).

When the news surfaced last week, it came as a surprise to everyone at the club.

Klopp’s contract with Liverpool was set to expire at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season, but the 56-year-old admitted that he is running out of stamina to complete the job.

The opportunity to play under the German was one of the key reasons why our No. 3 joined the club from the Bundesliga, and he’s become a huge favourite among Kopites since his £16 million move to Merseyside.

He and his Liverpool teammates will be determined to achieve as much success as possible this season in order to give the Normal One a fitting send-off.
