Thirty players from Alabama left via the transfer portal; several of them left after Nick Saban announced his retirement. One of the most prominent members of the Crimson Tide from their SEC championship and postseason squad this year, quarterback Jalen Milroe, returned for the 2024 campaign to serve as one of first-year coach Kalen DeBoer’s main cornerstones. On the transfer site, Alabama’s 2024 class is ranked No. 3, and 28th. The Crimson Tide has added six transfers since DeBoer took over, three of whom came from Washington.
According to ABC33/40 News, Milroe stated over the weekend, “What’s for you is for you and for me, it’s to stay at Alabama.” I still have a lot of goals at Alabama that I would like to accomplish. My letter of intent to attend the University of Alabama was signed by me. It all comes down to remaining here and creating. The bunch of guys in the changing room is excellent. Extremely looking forward to our football team’s future. Coach DeBoer and the rest of the coaching staff are a welcome addition.
In spite of early setbacks as a junior, Milroe went on to throw 23 touchdown passes and earn All-SEC second team honors. Prior to the College Football Playoff, Milroe stated that former Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien had advised him to attempt a new position.
Now, as Alabama’s re-entering starter at the position, Milroe heads into spring training as the centerpiece of a diverse scheme under Ryan Grubb that depends on rapid reads, decision-making, and pinpoint accuracy. After he removed himself from the portal, rumors that transfer quarterback Will Rogers would wind up at Alabama were not accurate.
Rogers played his final several seasons at Mississippi State, where his output was almost unprecedented. In addition, Alabama boasts a number of other talented quarterbacks, such as Dylan Lonergan and Ty Simpson, even when 2024 five-star recruit Julian Sayin left to join Ohio State.
During his weekend debut press conference, DeBoer stated that the Crimson Tide will always be “explosive” and that his offensive scheme will be customized for his players. That suggests that, at least initially, until the two develop a feel for one another, he will tailor his playbook to Milroe’s advantages.
One of the first players from Alabama to arrive at the team’s initial meeting was Milroe, who introduced DeBoer. The Crimson Tide should have no trouble adapting with a dual-threat option like Milroe, according to DeBoer.
