The Atlanta Falcons’ decision to pass on Bill Belichick on Thursday makes it doubtful that he would coach in the NFL the following season.

The NFL’s second-winningest coach is now open for business after leaving the New England Patriots earlier this month.

After two interviews with Belichick, Atlanta decided to sign Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.

There are now just two head coaching positions open with the hirings of new coaches by the Tennessee Titans, Carolina Panthers, and Los Angeles Chargers in the last 48 hours.

However, Belichick is “a long shot” to be hired by the Washington Commanders or the Seattle Seahawks, according to The Athletic.

At this point, Bill Belichick is considered “a long shot” to fill the two open head coach positions in the NFL.

After splitting ways with Pete Carroll, the Seattle Seahawks are searching for a new head coach.

After removing Ron Rivera as head coach, the Washington Commanders are currently looking for a replacement.

After leaving New England, Belichick was predicted to draw a lot of interest this offseason, but teams have chosen to hunt for coaches elsewhere.

Six of the eight head coaching vacancies that were open this offseason have now been filled.

Dave Canales was hired by the Carolina Panthers, Jim Harbaugh became a member of the Los Angeles Chargers, and Brian Callahan was hired by the Tennessee Titans.

It happened after Belichick was replaced in New England by Jerod Mayo and Antonio Pierce was selected as the new owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.

Along with Belichick, other players still available are Mike Vrabel, Aaron Glenn, Ben Johnson, Anthony Weaver, Mike Macdonald, Ejiro Evero, Dan Quinn, and Bobby Slowik.

Following 24 seasons with a 4-13 record, Belichick and the Patriots mutually parted ways.

In addition to 296 regular season and postseason victories, he guided the Patriots to six Super Bowl victories, nine AFC Championships, 17 AFC East titles, and more.

Belichick, who will age 72 on April 16, is currently 15 victories short of surpassing Don Shula’s record as the NFL’s all-time winningest coach.

The Atlanta Falcons had interviewed Belichick twice, but they decided to employ Raheem Morris instead.

His 49-season NFL career will come to an end if he is not selected for a head coaching position in the upcoming weeks.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport said, “Let’s talk about Bill Belichick potentially joining TV.” while addressing Belichick’s possibilities.

That would definitely be a possibility. Will he receive a second Emmy? I’m not sure, but I think he’d excel at it.

He might also act as a consultant, which is what coaches who take a yearly leave of absence do.

Additionally, this sets up Bill Belichick’s waiting. The greatest coach of all time does not act his age, even though I know he will be 72 before the next season. He looks to have a lot of energy, for sure. He might return in 2025.

It creates the possibility that any struggling team may face Bill Belichick in the future. For example, what if the Dallas Cowboys are unable to resolve their issues with Mike McCarthy? Or what if Nick Sirianni and the Eagles have a disappointing season?

“It will be epic how much TV time we spend wondering if Belichick will succeed X—insert coach’s name here.”
