Calle Jarnkrok, a forward on the team, was hurt during a practice drill on Friday, which may have dealt a blow to the Toronto Maple Leafs’ injury report. Sheldon Keefe, the head coach, stated that he is now unsure of the injury’s severity. Bobby McMann, the center, was also added to the injured reserve.

Jarnkrok Calle Hurt During Practice
Reporter David Alter posted a video of Jarnkrok leaving Friday’s practice and slamming his gloves down in frustration on social media. When Jarnkrok stopped a shot during practice, he left. In his 11-year NHL career, the Swedish forward has played for the Seattle Kraken, Calgary Flames, Nashville Predators, and Maple Leafs. In 46 games this season, Jarnkrok has 10 goals, 9 assists, and 19 points. Both a 49.9 and a -1.9 relative Corsi are found in him.

In 693 career appearances, the 32-year-old has amassed 299 points with 136 goals and 163 assists. Before joining the Kraken for the 2021–22 season, he played in more than 500 games for the Predators. The Gavle, Sweden native was chosen by the Detroit Red Wings with the 51st overall pick in the second round of the 2010 NHL Draft.

Jarnkrok has competed internationally for his home Sweden. In the 2013 IIHF World Championships, he took home the gold medal, and in the 2014 competition, he won the bronze.

What the Injury Signifies

It is a serious injury blow to lose a veteran like Jarnkrok. He can play several forward positions when necessary and is an important member of the Maple Leafs’ bottom six. Keefe has a lot of faith in Jarnkrok to play strong defense. When the Leafs play the Winnipeg Jets, they will need to improvise and change up their lineup.

Tyler Bertuzzi is expected to make a comeback to the starting lineup after returning to practice. But Jarnkrok is a veteran who does a lot of little things for the team, so his loss will be felt. Toronto is hoping that the ailment is not a long-term one.
