Anthony Schlegel, a former linebacker for Ohio State, is apparently joining the Buckeyes football team again to assist with winter practices. He will be providing temporary support to the strength and conditioning department while another coach is recovering from surgery.

Between 2011 and 2015, the 42-year-old Schlegel was a member of Ohio State’s strength and conditioning staff. Under head coach Urban Meyer, he also performed the same role for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021. In his 12 games with the Buckeyes in 2005, Schlegel recorded 82 tackles, 43 of which were solo, two sacks, and one pass defensed. The New York Jets selected the University Park, Texas native in the third round of the 2006 NFL Draft.

Schlegel spent his two NFL seasons playing for the Cincinnati Bengals and the New York Jets, splitting time between them. In 17 games, he recorded five starts, 38 tackles, and one quarterback hit.

Schlegel is the newest, although temporary, member of a staff that just added Matt Guerrieri to coach the safeties and Bill O’Brien as offensive coordinator. There may be additional additions as head coach Ryan Day continues to make adjustments to his coaching staff. The former linebacker for the Buckeyes is also the owner of Schlegel Hardcore Elite Training, a training facility.
