Jonah Jackson, the starting left guard for the Detroit Lions, “underwent surgery for a slight meniscus tear,” according to an ESPN source, and he is anticipated to miss the NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers.
On the plus side, Jackson might be eligible to play again if the Lions triumph and go to the Super Bowl. Before the injury, Jackson was playing really well, so having him return this season would be really beneficial.
In his press conference after the game, Lions coach Dan Campbell said that Jackson will probably miss this weekend’s match and he backed Kayode Awosika, who took over at left guard after the injury.
Campbell responded, “Yeah, I thought Yode (Kayode Awosika) stepped up.” That was pleasing to observe. He immediately dove in and performed admirably. I believe we played a five-step drop first play out of the gate. Yode has actually improved over the past two years. He has simply continued to grow. Additionally, he was there for us the previous time we played in Tampa. However, I think he accomplished some excellent work. We’ll see about Jonah and Brock (Wright). Does not look real good for next week, but we’ll see.”
Even though Campbell expressed satisfaction with Awosika immediately after the game, it’s reasonable to question whether he will maintain the same viewpoint upon rewatching the game—the advanced statistics were unfavorable. Awosika gave up five pressures on 28 snaps, according to PFF. However, he was credited by ESPN’s NextGen Stats for allowing seven pressures.
