Another elite athlete has left the football squad of Alabama, the Crimson Tide. After logging into the NCAA transfer portal over the weekend, freshman quarterback Julian Sayin is reportedly moving to Ohio State, according to ESPN. Sayin, a five-star quarterback, finished third in the nation last year in the rankings. Nick Saban announced his resignation as head coach not too long ago.

Sayin transferred because he came to play for Saban, according to ESPN. Additionally, Sayin made the decision to start again at Ohio State now that Saban is no longer the head coach. At Carlsbad High School in Carlsbad, California, Sayin completed his senior year with 2,369 yards of passing, 24 touchdowns, and one interception. Sayin choose Alabama over Ohio State, LSU, Texas, and LSU after high school. He intends to join Ohio State shortly and participate in spring practice later this year for the Buckeyes.

Sayin told ESPN on Sunday that he was “incredibly excited to join the team here at Ohio State.” “I held this program in high regard throughout my entire recruiting process and am looking forward to learning from some of the most talented players and coaches in college football and contributing to our team’s success.”

Sayin’s high school coach, Thadd MacNeal, gave an explanation for his former player’s choice at Ohio State. MacNeal stated, “They were actually No. 2 for him,” as reported by 247Sports. They really came in second, and as far as I’m aware, he went at least twice. He adored the offense, Ryan Day, and how quarterback-friendly he is. Julian has a lot of respect for Brian Hartline, the wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator at Ohio State, who has done a fantastic job grooming quarterbacks. He was active in Julian’s recruitment, and Ohio State has a fantastic wide receiver group, which is obviously very important to quarterbacks.”

Additionally, MacNeal stated that Sayin was influenced by Ohio State’s winning history. According to MacNeal, “He wants to compete for a national championship.” “Ohio State is undoubtedly one of the few universities that was constructed in that manner. They have an excellent winning history and, for the foreseeable future, a strong probability of qualifying for the College Football Playoffs each year. Julian is well acquainted with many of the players in this exceptional class, including Jeremiah Smith, who possesses exceptional talent. He’s ecstatic since this is a fantastic chance for him.”
