Each SEC club will have a more challenging schedule as a result of Texas and Oklahoma joining this autumn. The conference still uses an eight-game schedule, but the schedules of each team became much more difficult. Additionally, the conference abandoned divisions in favor of sending the two teams to Atlanta with the best conference winning percentages.

For Georgia, it means visiting Alabama, Ole Miss, and Kentucky in addition to traveling to Austin to play Texas. The Dawgs’ other ACC-SEC opener is an Atlanta game against Clemson. All things considered, it is one of the most difficult slates in the nation, facing two CFP teams while traveling and facing some rising stars in the league. But is the journey as tough as it used to be now that Nick Saban is retired

Simply put, no. Many athletes from Tuscaloosa have left since Saban left, including Caleb Downs, the SEC Freshman of the Year. The fact that Nick Saban is no longer watching the sidelines is more significant than that. Even while Alabama’s football program is still elite, it’s not the terrifying Death Star it was under head coach Nick Saban—at least not unless something changes. It will always be difficult to go to Tuscaloosa, but Georgia’s “welcome to the SEC” statement from Kalen DeBoer is encouraging for the Bulldogs.

On the other hand, it seems like the travel to Texas is getting harder and harder every day. Quarterback Quinn Ewers declared earlier this week that he was forgoing the NFL Draft in order to go back to Texas. The Longhorns have also been active on the transfer site, acquiring LB Kendrick Blackshire and WR Isaiah Bond, both former Alabama players. Also, they are searching for Amari Niblack, an Alabama tight end. Texas will be playing Georgia after their rivalry game against Oklahoma, and Georgia will be playing four challenging games in a row.

Like the trip to Austin, November 9th’s trip to Ole Miss is looking like it’s going to be a rock fight. The Rebels lost All-SEC running back Quinshon Judkins to Ohio State, but they’ve brought in 13 additions, including 5-star DT Walter Nolan from Texas A&M. All of a sudden Lane Kiffin’s squad is looking like a real contender for not just the expanded playoff, but the SEC crown.

Georgia will also face former quarterback Brock Vandergriff on the road when they take on Kentucky in week three and you can’t look past Clemson in week one. It looks like a custom schedule from Dynasty mode in EA Sports College Football, but one that Georgia should be able to manage.
