Coach Derek Lalonde announced on Tuesday that forward Patrick Kane of the Detroit Red Wings is dealing with a lower-body injury unrelated to his hip.

After the Red Wings return to Detroit, the training staff will assess Kane’s status. Kane will miss the rest of the team’s road trip.

The Red Wings will play the Florida Panthers on Wednesday and the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday to wrap out their tour. They defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2 on Sunday to start the tour.

Regarding his lineup sans Kane, Lalonde stated, “I probably won’t have a lot of different looks with the lines,” and that he’ll probably still wear 12 forwards and 6 defensemen.

After the game in Toronto, Lalonde told the media that the team required a few more tests to gauge Kane’s level of recuperation after the player was hurt in the first period.

Kane agreed to a $2.75 million, one-year contract with the Red Wings in November. Six months following hip resurfacing surgery, Kane, who had been with the Chicago Blackhawks for the first 16 years of his NHL career, was traded to the New York Rangers last spring.

After undergoing surgery, 35-year-old Kane moved his family to Toronto in order to recover. Kane’s hip resurfacing was done by Dr. Edward Su, and Ian MacIntyre managed his rehabilitation. While in Toronto, Kane skated with former NHL player Cody Goloubef, who fed him pucks and assisted the nine-time All-Star in combat drills.

In his 19 games with Detroit, Kane has averaged 17:51 minutes on the ice, with seven goals and sixteen points.
