Terry Saban is the husband of the record-breaking head football coach at the University of Alabama, who just announced his retirement following 17 seasons with the Crimson Tide.
Terry and Nick have been married for more than 50 years, and during Nick’s successful career, which included six national titles, a 206–29 overall record with Alabama, and a 2003 championship with Louisiana State University, Terry has been by his side.
Terry, herself, has been immersed and embraced by the Tuscaloosa town throughout her husband’s career as the Crimson Tide coach. In the wake of Nick’s retirement announcement, she wrote them a poignant note of gratitude, referring to the state as “that will always feel like ‘Sweet Home'” to her and her family.
The long-term couple’s passion for football is evident, but their love for one another goes beyond the field. Terry and Nick have a long history together, having been childhood sweethearts before getting married and eventually creating a family.

Terry and her husband were both born in Fairmont, West Virginia. Nick remembered that even though he was interested in her, she wasn’t into him when they first met in the seventh grade.
Ever since I was in the seventh grade, I have attempted to date. She was never going to date me. Terry would never, ever go out with me,” Nick used to say of her. She was at the moment into another guy, he noticed.
Nick attributed it to her socioeconomic standing relative to his own. “She was a city girl… She held various positions at East Fairmont High School, including drum majorette and Queen Bee. I just wasn’t able to find a date,” he said. “And here I am, the country bumpkin out here pumping gas every day.”
Nick claimed that Terry “finally noticed” him in high school. “I’ve finally got a date,” he declared.

Terry got married to Nick in December 1971. Nick claimed that ever since, she has given him “so much advice through the years” that he has used for both on and off-field football advice.
Nick wasn’t the best at controlling his fury when he spoke to the media in the beginning of his coaching career. But Terry didn’t hold back and persuaded him to alter his frequently “angry, nervous, and curt” demeanor.
“As a coach, I completely transformed my image, and it all began with how I was perceived by the public and media. It was very helpful in recruiting and building connections with players, so that was perhaps one of the most significant lessons she ever imparted to me.
The people of Alabama have given Terry a unique moniker over the years. Despite sharing the legendary last name Saban with her husband, Alabama Football’s First Lady simply goes by “Miss Terry” to fans.
She and Nick Saban had two adopted kids.
Two adopted children, a son named Nicholas and a daughter named Kristen, are the parents of Nick and Terry.
Kristen frequently shares pictures of herself on the sidelines during games on social media to show her support for Alabama. “Happy National Coaches Day to the best coach in the world. Terry revealed the news with a touching Facebook post, putting an end to rumors that Nick was leaving his position as head coach of the University of Alabama football team. She said goodbye to the Crimson tide in the message, valuing the experiences they had shared over the previous 17 seasons.
“It has been an incredible run these last 17 years at the University of Alabama and we take with us many amazing memories. Along with the winning heritage on the field, we hope that the Saban legacy will center around giving back to the community and improving people’s lives,” she said.
Terry continued, detailing their plans to maintain the charity established by their family as they “continue to help children, student, and teacher causes in the State of Alabama.” Her husband will also support this endeavor. She paid homage to the game and the state she has lived in for a long time as she concluded her article.
“The rules for the game of football may change, but the ‘process’ will never go out of style: hard work, discipline, the relentless pursuit of a worthy goal, not cutting corners, and doing things the right way for the sake of constant personal improvement, not for the scoreboard,” Terry stated.
“Our family will always consider Alabama to be “Sweet Home,” and we will be supporting the “Roll Tide” movement,” she signed the letter “Ms. Terry.” Saban” with a red heart emoji.
She established their own nonprofit with Nick Saban.
Nick and Terry participate in a number of charitable activities and frequently give back to the community in Alabama. They started their own non-profit organization, Nick’s Kids Foundation, in 1998 in memory of Nick’s father.
The charity, which is “dedicated to raising awareness and resources for deserving organizations throughout the state of Alabama and the Southeast,” has been “maintained and supported” by the Sabans ever since, according to the foundation website.
The Sabans have devoted their time to organizing golf tournaments, scrimmages, and other events to support charitable causes throughout their careers at LSU, the Miami Dolphins, and Alabama. One such event is their annual Giveaway Luncheon, which “serves to distribute grants to support children, family, teacher and student causes.”
