It looks like another talented player from Alabama is on his way to the transfer portal.

Second-year tight end Amari Niblack intends to use the portal, as On3 initially revealed. Niblack provided confirmation via his Instagram account.

Niblack had 20 catches for 327 yards last season, good for second place on the team with four receiving touchdowns. He made four starts in all 14 of Alabama’s games.

After playing in ten games as a freshman, the tight end only managed one reception for 15 yards and one touchdown. Nevertheless, he was able to capitalize on the increasing buzz over the offseason.

Niblack was drafted by the Crimson Tide as a wide receiver but was mostly used as a tight end out of high school.

He is the fifth Crimson Tide player to enter the gateway since former head coach Nick Saban announced his retirement on Wednesday joining Isaiah Bond, Antonio Kite, Dezz Ricks and Shawn Murphy. The link is open to Alabama players for 30 days following Saban’s retirement.

Kalen DeBoer was hired by Alabama on Friday to succeed Nick Saban. It is believed that Coach DeBoer has a more offensive outlook. In his media conference on Saturday, DeBoer declared that he will put together his coaching staff as quickly as possible. He is reportedly bringing his offensive coordinator from Washington, Ryan Grubb, to Alabama to perform the same function.

Niblack can return to Alabama even after using the gateway, but regardless of where he ends up, he will be eligible for two more years. Alabama has already lost its three greatest receivers from a year ago, either by the NFL draft (Jermaine Burton) or the portal (Niblack and Bond).
