The color blue is the warmest.

After being one of the NFL’s most productive pass-catchers in the shadow while playing for the Lions, Amon-Ra St. Brown has a soft spot for blue.

The third-year wideout’s most productive season to date was this one. It was also the best season his team has had in recent memory. While the celebrations are still premature because Detroit still has a postseason game to play, St. Brown made a bold decision to change his hair to symbolize his achievement.

Why is the hair of Amon-Ra St. Brown blue?

In a recent episode of St. Browns Bros., the podcast he co-hosts with his brother, St. Brown gave an explanation of his decision to dye his hair blue. In an interview with Bears star DJ Moore, St. Brown explained how he arrived at his striking decision.

According to the report, St. Brown promised, prior to training camp, to go bold with his hairstyle if Detroit advanced to the postseason.

“Before camp, I was like ‘If we make the playoffs, I’m dyeing my hair,” St. Brown stated. And sure enough, we succeeded; we didn’t experience any stress. I was like, f—. I colored my hair because, unlike other people, I’m a man of my word.”

With comparatively little difficulty, the Lions won their first division championship since the Clinton years and advanced to the postseason. St. Brown caught 119 catches for 1,515 yards and 10 touchdowns, playing a major part in the game.

Now that postseason football was guaranteed in the Motor City, St. Brown decided to replace his usual black waves with lush blue ones from Honolulu. The tone complements his sapphire blue attire flawlessly.

A little paint in his hair doesn’t bother St. Brown in the slightest. In 2021, he donned some frosted tips for the pre-draft stage.

His most ambitious decision to yet. Whether that helps Detroit’s prospects of winning the Super Bowl remains to be seen.
