I swear we’re nearing the conclusion of the coverage for the Detroit Lions’ sad loss to the Dallas Cowboys. But I’d like to take you back to that exact moment. Because every Detroit Lions fan felt pure bliss for around 30 seconds. It felt like we were on top of the world when Taylor Decker caught the two-point conversion to give the Lions a 21-20 lead over the Cowboys with only 23 seconds remaining. Detroit was on the verge of clinching the NFC’s second seed by defeating a talented Cowboys team at a venue where Dallas hadn’t lost in nearly two seasons.

It would have been the most famous moment of an already memorable season if the officials hadn’t stolen it away. And if you want to relive the moment, listen to the call from Detroit Lions play-by-play announcer Dan Miller.

Miller is well-liked in this town, and with cause. He puts his heart on his sleeve, yet he is not afraid to be candid in his appraisal. And, since the Lions began filming him during games, we can verify that the passion we hear in his voice is genuine. He is going through it physically and emotionally during games, just like we are.

Miller’s call of the two-point conversion was broadcast on 97.1 The Ticket on Tuesday morning, and it is an absolute masterclass from the play-by-play announcer. The radio cut ends when Miller sees a flag on the field, but it’s worth listening to just to remember how fantastic it felt in that moment, and how such an iconic play was unjustly snatched from us.

Here’s the transcript written.

“Goff takes, turns, fakes the Montgomery handoff, sets in the pocket, throws end zone, wide open, it is caught!” Decker, Taylor! 2 points! Oh my gosh! Are you serious? Johnson, Ben! Johnson, Ben! Johnson, Ben! Oh, my baby! Taylor Decker to Jared Goff! The Lions are ahead! What a performance! What a strategy! Unbelievable! Are you serious? Taylor Decker, you’ve waited long enough!

“Is there a flag down?”
