C.J. Gardner-Johnson of the Detroit Lions will miss at least one more week as he recovers from a torn pectoral muscle suffered in Week 2.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson, the Detroit Lions’ safety, is expected to return this week against the Minnesota Vikings, according to coach Dan Campbell.

“He certainly appears young. “He’s moving pretty well,” Campbell added. “So it’s really just a matter of getting him more practices to make sure he’s ready to go and comfortable.” We just do not toss him to the wolves. I don’t think he’ll play this week, but he’s fine.”

Gardner-Johnson tore his pectoral muscle three months ago in the Lions’ Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks. He returned to practice for the first time this week and delivered a passionate press conference on Wednesday, expressing his delight to join a club in the midst of a divisional title run.

“I’m afraid I’m going to cry.” Gardner-Johnson expressed concern that she would weep. “When you think about it, a lot of you guys—I don’t want to speak for everyone—haven’t seen a conference (sic) championship. As a result, this is a step toward feeling like a winner. If you haven’t already guessed, this is my fifth year. I have won four divisions. Not to offend anyone, but that is the finest feeling.”
